Women Take Heart 2008

Heart disease is the number one killer of women!
Women are half as likely as men to survive their first heart attack, and significantly more likely than men to have a second attack within one year. Furthermore, diagnosing heart attacks can be more difficult in women than men because women tend to have less "typical" symptoms. Women are encouraged to learn all they can about preventing heart attacks and getting the earliest possible treatment if they experience any symptoms of a heart attack.
Because heart disease is the leading cause of death among both men and women, The Hope Heart Institute provides a free community education series for the family titled Women Take Heart.
The mission is to create awareness and provide tools for healthier living. With this program, women attend evening sessions where basics of the heart, nutrition, exercise, and stress management are highlighted topics.
 The Hope's goals for the series are:
- To educate families about preventing heart disease by offering a free two-part education series.
- To increase knowledge of heart disease and provide tools for prevention.
- To provide multicultural interactive activities for children promoting healthy choices for a lifetime.
- To activate each family members power of choice in heart-healthy living.
- To foster positive community relationships between The Hope, local businesses and local families.
